Toss the Turtle by Newgrounds ? Review
Well it is about time that I could toss a turtle across a minefield at immense speeds. Toss the Turtle is a rather fascinating distance game, which goes far beyond other distance games, in terms of its playability, likeability and general game play, let's take a look and see why Newgrounds have published one of the best distance games on the internet?
The first thing that you will realise about this game is it is highly addictive. Not only do you have the task of breaking your own score, or the scores of others, but gaining all 40 medals and earning enough money to purchase all of the equipment (of which there is a lot) to try to break your previous scores.
To start off with, you may find it slightly frustrating that your distances are often lacklustre, even though you might fluke the occasional long distance shot; however, as you start upgrading your items you will soon see vast improvements in your distance.
Toss the Turtle controls are extremely simplistic and well in keeping with the game. Aim the cannon at an angle you are satisfied with your mouse, hold down the mouse and release when you have built up your desired power. When your turtle is airborne use the [W] [A] [S] and [D] keys to direct the turtle through the air.
Depending on your distance, and a host of other things you are given money to spend on some upgrades, which will hopefully propel your distance. To start off you have a basic cannon and a slingshot, which you can use to keep you airborne. Remember; always think about what you buy. Buying the wrong item at the wrong time is often costly.
Before you decide to direct yourself or avoid a target think about it. Some targets you want to avoid like the plague but others, (and not particularly ones you would expect) you want to aim for as they will boost your distance. It is all about trial and error, you will soon learn which ones you want to hit and which you want to avoid. You may also find that if you hit objects at the correct angle it can be immensely rewarding.
A little hint, for added distance to your earlier attempts, hold down the D key to propel your turtle through the air. Also, remember to use the other directional keys to hit obstacles that you think will benefit along the way. I believe this is one of the major factors of this Newgrounds game popularity, with many distance games once your character is in the air there is not much you can do, but with Toss the Turtle there is an added element of skill involved.
So what sets this apart from other distance games? Well it has many distinctive features that Foreverkul and Gonzossm at Newgrounds have ingeniously introduced, which other developers in this genre have not even thought of. This game also has extensive longevity, some distance games lack this longevity, and this loses them credibility after a short while. Toss the turtle is not just another distance game, it is THE distance game.
